As of June 1, 2007, a memory leak issue has been identified that affects all MediaDirect 3.0 systems, on both Windows XP and Vista. This results in memory consumption, affecting system performance even if MediaDirect is not used. A patch has been developed that resolves this issue and others. This affects nearly 100% of Dell Inspiron systems (except Inspiron 1501).

As of June 1, 2007, a memory leak issue has been identified that affects all MediaDirect 3.0 systems, on both Windows XP and Vista. This results in memory consumption, affecting system performance even if MediaDirect is not used. A patch has been developed that resolves this issue and others. This affects nearly 100% of Dell Inspiron systems (All but Kirin).
Symptoms might include:
a. PCMService.exe consumes large amount of system memory.
b. High CPU usage while the Contacts and Calendar data of Office is synch to MediaDirect Instant
Office.
c. Press "Live TV" would cause MD3.0 to start up when using the MCE remote.
To resolve these problems, download the update patch from support.dell.com.
To download the patch, perform the following steps:
Click Download Now, to download the file.
The File Download window appears.
Click the Save button, and then click OK.
The Save In: window appears.
Click the down arrow, then click to select Desktop.
Click the Save button.
The file downloads to your desktop.
If the Download Complete window appears, click Close.
The file icon appears on your desktop when it has completed downloading.
After you have downloaded the update patch, peform the following steps to install it:
Locate the file on your desktop, which is named R157449_MediaDirect_3_Patch.exe.
Double click the icon.
The MediaDirect InstallShield Wizard window appears.
Click the Continue button.
Install Dell MediaDirect 3 Patch window appears.
Click the Next button.
License Agreement appears. Click Yes button.
Setup Complete appears. Click Finish button.
The patch has been applied, and PCMService.exe memory issue should be resolved.
