PowerFlex: volumes not visible to Red Hat Virtualization Manager

Summary: In an attempt to use ScaleIO with Red Hat virtualization an issue appears where the /dev/scini* devices are not visible to the Red Hat Virtualization Manager.

Symptoms

In an attempt to use PowerFlex Storage with Red Hat virtualization an issue is noticed, where the /dev/scini* devices are not visible to the Red Hat Virtualization Manager.

The PowerFlex SDS and SDC are running on a Red Hat physical server. The Red Hat virtualization manager is on a separate node which is not part of PowerFlex. Red Hat Virtualization manager manages all the storage nodes.
Red Hat Virtualization manager (RHEV-M) could see only the SAS disks present on the Nodes, but not the PowerFlex volumes mapped to those nodes.

Cause

For Red Hat Virtualization manager to see the SCALEIO volumes (Scini* devices), Multipath representation must be required for "scini" block devices.

Resolution

Follow KB PowerFlex: How to Make "scini" devices available as multipath devices in Linux to set the multipath representation on the "scini" block devices.
The Red Hat Virtualization manager can see the scini devices presented to the nodes which are managed by Red Hat Virtualization manager after the Multipath representation is set for "scini" devices.

Additional Information

The multipath representation rule must be changed only on the Software-Defined Controller (SDC) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) hosts not on the Red Hat Virtualization manager (RHEV-M).
