VPLEX: VPlex installer incorrectly report checksum error

Summary: The checksums of the package file do not match due to the parent directory folder owner:group value incorrect.

Symptoms

 

VPlex installer command incorrectly reports checksum error despite having the correct package. 

service@vplex-c1:~> VPlex-MS-installer --omit-manifest-check -v VPlex.x.x.x-management-server-package.tar 
The checksums of the package file do not match. 


 

Cause

RPMs directory have wrong permissions. 
 

  • Check RPMs directory permissions. The directory is unexpectedly owned by root user. 

service@vplex-c1:~> ls -lFd /tmp/VPlexInstallPackages/rpms 
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 19498 Nov 20 09:28 /tmp/VPlexInstallPackages/rpms/ 

  • RPM directory should be owner by service user.

 

Resolution

  • Removing RPMs directory will resolve the issue as VPlex-Installer command will re-create the directory with the correct permissions.
