Data Domain: Permissions Issue Accessing Filesystem Location Reports in DDOS 7.9 and Later

Oversigt: In DDOS 7.9 or later, users encounter permission errors when accessing filesystem location reports generated using the 'filesys report generate file-location' command with the output-file option. This occurs because the output is saved in a new directory with restrictive permissions. ...

Symptomer

  • Users cannot access the output file created by:
    • filesys report generate file-location --output-file <filename>
  • Access attempts using CIFS or NFS fail.
  • Issue observed only after upgrading to DDOS 7.9 or later.

Årsag

Starting with DDOS 7.9.x:

  • The filesys report generate file-location command saves output files to:
    /ddr/var/log/debug/filesys_report/<filename>

    Instead of:
    /ddr/var/<filename>

  • The new directory is created with 740 permissions (drwxr-S---), restricting access compared to the previous 755 (drwxr-xr-x) permissions.

Løsning

Permanent Fix:

  • Issue resolved in:
    • DDOS 7.10.1.20
    • DDOS 7.13.x

Upgrade to one of these versions to restore proper access permissions.

Workaround:

  • Do not use the output-file option.
  • Instead, capture the command output using your SSH client:
    1. Enable session logging in your SSH client.
    2. Select "All session output.”
    3. Save the log file with a logical name in an accessible directory.
  • For PuTTY:
    • Navigate to Session → Logging in the configuration screen.
  • Refer to your SSH client’s manual for equivalent steps.
