Latitude or Precision Laptop Ghost Touch with the Touchpad

The touchpad on the Latitude or Precision laptop may work erratically or activate when no one touches it. The mouse cursor moves around on the screen by itself in the Windows operating system. The issue occurs when the LCD lid is closed after the laptop is started with a power button on the palm rest.

Affected Platforms:

• Latitude 5420
• Latitude 5520
• Precision 3560

Investigation concluded that the disable signal is not active in the touchpad, resulting in the touchpad stays enabled after closing the lid.

For Latitude 5420, updating to BIOS version 1.36.2 or later on the computer resolves the issue. For Latitude 5520 and Precision 3560, updating to BIOS version 1.41.0 or later on the computer resolves the issue. To download and install the BIOS, reference BIOS Update Guide.
