  • Installing additional software on an Avamar server.
  • Modifying the operating system to enable custom monitoring, reporting or asset tracking.


The Avamar server environment is sold as an appliance and is carefully specified, tuned, and controlled. This is in order to maintain the integrity and performance of the Avamar server application and any subsystems which are part of the official Avamar product.
 

Dell does not support the installation or use of any third-party software, scripts, or similar changes to an Avamar server.

Below are some of the concerns about the use of third-party software or other custom changes made to an Avamar server:
  • Unexpected physical resource consumption (CPU, memory, disk, network)
  • Contention with regular Avamar processes
  • Increased risk of security vulnerabilities
  • Potential compatibility issues between Avamar software and the third-party software, or standard but untested code libraries which the third-party software depends on
