Connectrix B-Series: Verify Connectivity Between Switch to External Device Using Telnet

Summary: If ping is disabled, the user can verify the switch connectivity to an external server using telnet.

Instructions

  1. Log in to the switch using root
  2. Run telnet command:
Syntax:
"telnet <IP ADDRESS OF SERVER > <PORT>"

Example of performing telnet to verify if a connection to a server using port 443 is available: 
  • Successfully connected:
root> telnet 10.1x.1x.1xx 443
Trying 10.1x.1x.1xx...
Connected to 10.1x.1x.1xx.
Escape character is '^]'.
^]
telnet> close
Connection closed.
  • Connection Refused: 
root>telnet 1.x.x.0.1 443
Trying 1x.0.0.1...

telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

Additional Information

NOTE: The telnet command is not available on the older switch models and FOS.


NOTE: For switch above 9.1.x, the user requires serviceshell access from Broadcom to run these commands as root account is disabled.
