PowerEdge R640: Storage Power JBP1 or JBP2 Cable is Not Connected, or Improperly Connected

JBP1 and JBP2 are the names given to mainboard connectors for backplane power. The connectors are referenced in the PowerEdge R640 Installation and Service Manual Pages 137 and 138 as J_BP1 and J_BP2.

Investigating the location of these connectors on the mainboard and where they connect can help the user understand the possible cause of the issue.

Cable 6 would be J_BP2 and cable 5 would be J_BP1. 

NOTE: Not all R640 variants use the J_BP2 connector.

If there is no repair history, the user should consider recent changes including physical movement of the system which may have introduced a connection fault. Also consider if there is a visible symptom on the system or if this is shown as a message. 

Dell Technologies would recommend running these systems on the latest BIOS and IDRAC firmware to mitigate corrections already implemented by Dell Engineering.

If troubleshooting the cause of the issue, review the below video which shows how to remove the system cover and remove cables. In this instance, focus only on the removal of the designated power cables and the process of pushing them home securely at motherboard and backplane. This should only be done while all power is disconnected.
