MFE SCF: DEV,EXPAND command processing issues in R21 to R2 cascaded environment resulting in SCF0463E error

Summary: DEV,EXPAND ignores the R21->R2 link status and the R2 size in the cascaded SRDF environment.

Symptoms

In the cascaded SRDF environment the DEV,EXPAND command ignores R21->R2 link status and R2 device size and sends the expansion request which causes the expansion failure with the message:        
                                             
SCF0463E Device symdv# srdfgrp failed expansion due to Symmetrix Aborted Expansion        
                                

Cause

This is caused by a software issue.

Resolution

Permanent Fix: 
  • For Mainframe Enablers 8.5, PTF SF85096 has been developed to correct the issue. It is available to download from Dell Online Support.
  • For Mainframe Enablers 8.4, PTF SF84152 has been developed to correct the issue. It is available to download from Dell Online Support.
  • For Mainframe Enablers 8.3, PTF SF83204 has been developed to correct the issue. It is available to download from Dell Online Support.

Device symdv# [RDFG srdfgrp] failed expansion due to reason
Cause
The indicated device cannot be expanded due to the reason described in reason. If the failing device is in an SRDF relationship with the device specified in your DEV,EXPAND command, it is shown as symdv# RDFG srdfgrp where srdfgrp is the SRDF group of the device.
