Commands Explained:
The following command identifies proxies with the PDM managed-by extension key:

 ./goav vcenter pdm managed
  • Retrieves a list of Avamar proxies from Avamar
  • Establishes a connection to each corresponding proxy's vCenter
  • Reads the below file managed by extension key
"com.emc.avamar.vmware.vcs.deploymanager"
  • Gathers vApp network information and other VMware environmental details
  • Prints the collected data into a table
The following command can be used to make a proxy that was manually deployed in vSphere managed by PDM:
./goav vcenter pdm proxy-add
  • Retrieves a list of Avamar proxies from Avamar
  • Establishes a connection to each corresponding proxy's vCenter
  • Validate if the proxy is already managed in PDM; if so, it skips the proxy
  • Validates the proxy configuration
  • If the proxy is NOT managed in PDM and has a valid configuration, it runs the following on each proxy:
initproxyappliance.sh managedby
  • Optional flag:
Used to show Proxy Configuration and Invalid Config Reasons: --verbose

Does not check proxy configuration, "runs initproxyappliance.sh managedby" on each proxy: --force
The following command checks proxy configuration and lists any reasons why a proxy is not managed:
./goav vcenter pdm proxy-check
  • Checks proxy configuration for Proxy Deployment Manager (PDM) compatibility using the following tests:
1 - The proxy is associated with a vCenter system and not a stand-alone ESX Host.
2 - The proxy is not inside a vCenter vApp container.
3 - The proxy has the PDM managedby extension:  "com.emc.avamar.vmware.vcs.deploymanager".
4 - The proxy has vApp Options enabled.
5 - The proxy's instanceUUID is inside /usr/local/avamar/var/vcs/dm/proxies, indicating it is managed by this Avamar server.
The following command generates a PDM recommendation task in vCenter:
./goav vcenter pdm recommendation
  • Retrieves a list of vCenters from Avamar
  • Starts a recommendation task for all vCenters or if the optional --name flag is passed, for the specified vCenter
    • Optional flag:
Used to specify how long the backup window is (default is 720 minutes): --backupwindow

Used to specify the average change rate (default is 0.12% or 12%%): --rate

Used to specify include protecting local datastores: --localdisk
The following command removes any running or stalled PDM recommendation tasks in vCenter:
./goav vcenter pdm remove-pdm-task
  • Retrieves a list of vCenters from Avamar
  • Establishes a connection to vCenter and checks for a running PDM recommendation task
  • If a task is found, the task is removed.
    • Optional flag:
Used to specify which vCenter:  --name
