This article applies to This article does not apply to This article is not tied to any specific product. Not all product versions are identified in this article.

Symptoms

When attempting to run incremental backups using vProtect, full backups are triggered instead.

Cause

The issue arises from the interaction between vProtect's Changed Block Tracking (CBT) method and snapshot management. CBT requires snapshots only during backup operations to ensure data consistency. Therefore, vProtect deletes snapshots post-backup, impacting the expected behavior of incremental backups.

Resolution

This is expected behavior.
vProtect operates based on Changed Block Tracking where the snapshot is only required during the backup process to ensure data consistency.
