Avamar: How to Use Goav Integration Data Protection Appliance feature

Command

Use the Integration Data Protection Appliance feature by running the following command:

./goav idpa
This feature enables users to efficiently manage and resolve various internal IDPA client or policy-related issues. It enables users to check for and rectify multiple issues within clients or policies, streamlining the process and ensuring smoother operations.

Usage:
  goav idpa [command]

Available Commands:
  check       Allows the user to check for multiple internal IDPA client or policy issues.
  fix         Allows a user to fix multiple internal client and policy issues.

Flags:
  -h, --help   help for idpa

Global Flags:
  -d, --debug      debug output
  -f, --force      Ignore Configuration
  -n, --noheader   Do not display header

Use "goav idpa [command] --help" for more information about a command.

 

Check the help screen for usage on check command:

 ./goav idpa check --help

Command for checking multiple issues:
  multiple    Allows the user to check for multiple common issues with IDPA clients and policies.

Additional Commands:
  clients     Check the status of internal IDPA clients.
  policy      Check the status of internal IDPA backup policies.
  proxy       Check the status of internal IDPA proxy.
  vcenter     Check the status of the internal IDPA vCenter connection.
  vms         Check the status of internal IDPA VMs

Flags:

Use Case

In order to complete an Integration Data Protection Appliance upgrade, the upgrade tool requires Integration Data Protection Appliance configuration in Avamar and state to be healthy and properly configured. goav idpa automates fixing problems.

Explanation of Checks

  • vCenter Check:
    Checks the status of the internal Integration Data Protection Appliance vCenter connection
    Checks the status of the internal Integration Data Protection Appliance vCenter certificates

  • Virtual Machine Check:
    Checks the status of internal Integration Data Protection Appliance VMs

  • Proxy Check:
    Checks the status of internal Integration Data Protection Appliance proxy

  • Policy Check:
    Checks the status of internal Integration Data Protection Appliance backup policies (Groups, Retentions, Schedules, Datasets)

  • Clients Check:
    Checks Integration Data Protection Appliance client status (registered, last backups, power state, policy membership)

 

Explanation of Fixes

  • vCenter Fix:
    Regenerates new vCenter certificates if they have expired

  • Virtual Machine Fix:
    Checks the status of internal Integration Data Protection Appliance VMs and retires and readds them to backup policies if needed

  • Proxy Fix:
    Checks the status of the internal Integration Data Protection Appliance proxy and re-register the proxy if needed

  • Policy Fix:
    Ensures the Integration Data Protection Appliance expected policy settings that they are present in Avamar and if needed, re-creates Groups, Retentions, Schedules, and Datasets settings

  • Clients Fix:
    Check Integration Data Protection Appliance client status (registered, last backups, power state, policy membership) and starts a manual backup if needed
