PowerProtect: Oracle Incremental Merge (OIM) backup of ARCHIVELOG or CONTROLFILE fails

Summary: Oracle Incremental Merge (OIM) backup of ARCHIVELOG or CONTROLFILE fail, whereas they are backed up successfully when running as part of a full or incremental backup.

Symptoms

A full or incremental backup of an Oracle database using the Oracle Incremental Merge (OIM) feature includes the backup log (ARCHIVELOG), and control files.

An OIM backup of only the CONTROLFILE, or ARCHIVELOG file, the backup could fail with:

sub directory creation failed Unable to open PowerProtect DD dir path: oim_qa/CLIENT_NAME.DOMAIN.COM/2720304786/controlfile/tags.json

Opening the directory 'oim_qa/ CLIENT_NAME.DOMAIN.COM /2720304786/controlfile/tags.json' failed [5008] ([249168] [140483246442560]

ddp_open_dir() failed, su_name=, path_name=oim_qa/CLIENT_NAME.DOMAIN.COM/2720304786/controlfile/tags.json, Err: 5008-not a directory

Cause

The issue is encountered when RMAN Agent software is not able to correctly identify the CONTROLFILE, and ARCHIVELOG file in the Data Domain backup structures.
For example: When backups were previously manually deleted using the ddutil command seen below:

./ddutil -O OIM -n [arch|full|ctl|incr] -a version=2.0 -b <begin_time> -e <end_time> -d -z <DD_host>:/<storage_unit> <Backup Path>.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in RMAN Agent 19.20 or greater.
