Instructions

VSR (Virtual Synthetic Replication) is an DD feature which can help to improve the replication (or Networker CCR cloning) performance. This feature is enabled by default on DD, and Networker will also take advantage of this feature to improve the CCR cloning performance.

However, in some specific scenario (or for troubleshooting purpose), we might have to temporarily disable this feature. This feature can be turned off in DD settings, but it will impact all DD replication behavior instead of only Networker activities. Alternatively, if you just want to turn this feature off for Networker activities, you can try the following steps.

Procedure

1. Create the nsrcloneconfig file on the machine that runs the NSR clone process under the following locations:

  • On Windows: C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\debug
  • On UNIX: /nsr/debug

Note: The nsrcloneconfig file should not have an extension.

2. Type the following parameters in the nsrcloneconfig file:

  • disable_vsr=1
3. Restart Networker service to make changes taking effects.

Additional Information

VSR feature is enabled by default, and usually we do not suggest you disabling this feature in daily usage. The above steps might only require while troubleshooting specific issues which is VSR related.
