Avamar: NDMP - How to move clients after running avregister on an NDMP Accelerator node
Summary: All clients, new and old, register to the domain provided when avregister is run. Existing clients must be moved to the new domain.
Instructions
Setting up Network Attached Storage (NAS) clients on an Avamar Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) accelerator is covered in the NDMP accelerator user guide.
This requires running the avsetupndmp command to create the client on the accelerator node and registering the client to the Avamar server with avregister.
When avregister is run, supply the Avamar server to which the client should be registered.
All clients on an NDMP Accelerator node can only be registered to one Avamar server.
When avregister asks for the domain to register the clients to, leave off the leading "/";
For example: To register clients to the /ndmpclients domain, enter ndmpclients.
All clients are created in the same domain that is provided to avregister.
If the client already exists in another domain, it remains there and a new client instance is created in the new domain. All existing backups continue to be associated with the original client.
If the existing client moves to a new domain, delete the new client from the domain using the admin UI or Avamar Web User Interface (AUI). Then use administrator to move the existing client to the new domain.
All the existing backups for this client are preserved.
If the client moves to a different domain, be sure to modify the associated backup group so that it has the new path for the client.
If this is a new client, follow the normal procedures in the Avamar administrators guide and create the dataset, schedule, retention, and group.
This should allow backups of existing clients to run backups for the new domain added.
