Symptoms
The NetWorker VMware Protection integration is configured with the vProxy Appliance. The NetWorker Management Console (NMC) is used to configure a "Revert a Virtual Machine" recovery to an existing Virtual Machine (VM). The recovery fails indicating the datastore folder was not found. The recovery session log shows:
YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS INFO: [@(#) Build number: 112] Disconnected from session on vCenter 'VCENTER_NAME'.
YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS ERROR: [@(#) Build number: 112] Failed to recover(revert) the VM. Error in waiting for task to find folders in datastore DATASTORE_NAME. File [DATASTORE_NAME] /FOLDER_NAME was not found
vProxy Log Ends =================================================
Virtual machine recovery failed: vProxy recovery failed with error message: Session "64a5d206-1568-47d7-89e9-a10aeeedbba0" failed. Error: Error in waiting for task to find folders in datastore DATASTORE_NAME. File [DATASTORE_NAME] /FOLDER_NAME was not found.
Cause
The VM had a virtual machine disk (VMDK) that was stored on a different datastore and the folder does not exist. The Revert VM workflow searches for the VM folders to revert the existing VMDK files, but in this situation one of the folders does not exist. The VMs recover workflow exits as it expected to find the folder and VMDK to perform the VMDK revert function on an existing VMDK. This is working as designed for the "Revert a Virtual Machine" recovery.
Resolution
The "Virtual Disk Recovery" method can be used to recover one or more VMDKs to an existing VM. The recovery method can also be configured to restore the files to a different datastore folder that resides outside the default VM folder.
Additional Information
Workaround:
Manually create the missing folder on the target datastore before performing the "Revert a Virtual Machine" recovery.
Manually create the missing folder on the target datastore before performing the "Revert a Virtual Machine" recovery.
