Can I install the firmware on my wired Dell dock without power cycling the dock?
Yes you can, the docking station firmware stays on the docks Electronically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) indefinitely. However, the docks functionality may be reduced during this time. This is because it waits for the dock to be power cycled for the first time to finalize the installation.
Note: This is the best practice to follow when installing the firmware on a wired Dell docking station. Turn the dock off directly after the software installation is completed. Then turn the dock back on to ensure it gives full functionality for any future use.
