Instructions

Legacy Licenses (.xml) on Avamar v7.2 and earlier show a value in "protected-data-max" matching the maximum capacity protected on the Avamar server:

avmaint license --avamaronly
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<licensekey
  generation-time="XXXXXXXXXX"
  account-id="CXXXXXXXXXX"
  asset-name="FQDN"
  asset-reference-id="XXXXXXXXXX"
  expires="0"
  protected-data-max="5120">
  <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
</licensekey>

New licenses generated using the Common Licensing Platform (.lic) on Avamar v7.3 or greater show the parameter "protected-data-max=0" after it has been applied.

avmaint license --avamaronly
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<licensekey
  generation-time="XXXXXXXXXX"
  account-id="CXXXXXXXXXX"
  asset-name="FQDN"
  asset-reference-id="XXXXXXXXXX"
  expires="0"
  protected-data-max="0">
  <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
 <macaddr addr="XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX"/>
</licensekey>

The Licensing team has confirmed that CLP Licenses are no longer bound to the MAC hardware address like legacy licenses were.

The new licensing method enables customers to use the capacity that has been purchased on their account. In other words, the parameter protected-data-max="0" is expected if using CLP on v7.3 or higher.
