PowerProtect Data Manager: Unable to import existing SQL backups into PowerProtect Data Manager

Symptoms



DDBEA/PowerProtect Data Manager for SQL is installed in a non-standard location, the brownfield_breadcrumbs directory was created, and the tool AgentBackupDiscovery was run to discover the old backups. However, none of the old backups show under Infrastructure/Assets/SQL Databases/DB Name/VIEW COPIES.

PowerProtect Data Manager log /var/log/brs/adm/adm*log shows:

Cause

PowerProtect Data Manager is unable to resolve the DataDomain shortname. It is only able to resolve the Fully Qualified Domain Name.

Resolution

Procedure:   
  1. Open SSH session to PowerProtect Data Manager using admin user name.
  2. Switch to root:  
su -
  1. Open file:   
vi /etc/hosts
  1. Add an entry for DataDomain FQDN and shortname.
  2. Save the file.
  3. Open file:  
vi /etc/resolv.conf
  1. Add to search the domain name associated to DataDomain name:  
Example:  
If DataDomain FQDN is: dd.example.com
Verify search has the name
search <search domains> example.com
If not, add example.com
  1. Check that DataDomain can ping the shortname and resolve it using:   
nslookup
  1. Connect to the SQL computer.
  2. Make sure brownfield_breadcrumbs directory is created in the install directory
  3. Re-run AgentBackupDiscovery.
  4. The backups should be populated in about 1-2 hours.
