ViPR Controller: REQUIRED Upgrade to ViPR Controller 3.6.2 and Solutions Enabler 9.0 for VMAX All Flash Array microcode 5978 (Elm) support
Symptoms
ViPR Controller: REQUIRED Upgrade to ViPR Controller 3.6.2 and Solutions Enabler 9.0 for VMAX All Flash Array microcode 5978 (Elm) support.
Affected products:
ViPR Controller < 3.6.2.0
VMAX All Flash Array models 250F/450F/850F/950F with microcode version 5978
In a VMAX All Flash Array environment (models VMAX 250F/450F/850F/950F), existing storage group Service Level Objective Diamond with any workload (OLTP/OLTP_REP/DSS/DSS_REP) prior to an upgrade to microcode 5978 will automatically be converted to Service Level Diamond (without any workload) after an upgrade to microcode 5978.
Note: Microcode 5978 is not applicable to VMAX3 (Hybrid) arrays (models VMAX 100K/200K/400K).
Pre-3.6.2 versions of ViPR Controller are impacted by the Service Levels changes in VMAX microcode 5978 and the deployment will become unusable. An upgrade to 3.6.2 is required to gain support for VMAX microcode 5978.
Cause
ViPR Controller pre-3.6.2 versions do not currently support VMAX All Flash Array models 250F/450F/850F/950F with microcode 5978 and its prerequisite Solutions Enabler (SE) version 9.0 as detailed in the "EMC ViPR Controller 3.6.1 Support Matrix". Always consult the latest support matrix to verify current version support.
Resolution
Please refer to the "EMC ViPR Controller Version 3.6 Service Pack 2 Release Notes" for details on the required upgrade sequence for ViPR Controller, Solution Enabler, and microcode upgrades.
