Avamar: ADMe NetWorker Setup and Automated Configuration Procedures
Summary: ADMe supports most major tape backup applications but its integration with NetWorker is considerably more tightly coupled enabling it to report detailed information related to a given tape export by leveraging its different CLI backup commands. ...
Instructions
The tape backup or export phase is automatically initiated by ADMe acting similar to a third-party scheduler calling appropriate NetWorker CLI syntax.
NetWorker provides three commands used for initiating standard file system backups as follows:
savesavefsnsrworkflow
Syntax of these commands differs in ADMe and NetWorker as do the advantages to using one command over the other.
nsrworkflow supports the ability to leverage NetWorkers Parallel Save Set PSS feature which can increase throughput to tape by a factor of 2 to three times compare with not using it.
For this reason, using server initiated nsrworkflow is considered the preferred approach and is enabled by default when establishing ADMe job policies.
Setup efforts related within NetWorker for nsrworkflow are more involved. But ADMe also provide an automated scripted approach for using nsrworkflow which is relatively quick and helps to ensure accuracy. It is especially beneficial at installation time when multiple workflows must be created.
The attached pdf documents the differences between each of the above commands, how to configure them and how to use of the automated configuration process.
