PowerEdge: Install Windows Server 2016 or 2019 on PE T40 with USB drive

Instructions

Create the USB installation drive using Rufus

  1. Download the application Rufus: https://rufus.ie/en/This hyperlink is taking you to a website outside of Dell Technologies.
  2. Connect the USB drive to the personal computer (PC) the Rufus software is installed and run on.
  3. You must check two options on the software:
    • Partition Scheme: GPT
    • Target System: UEFI (non-CSM)
    • The other options can be let with the default values. 
  4. Select the ISO location and Start.

System BIOS settings

After creating the bootable USB drive, restart the server and boot to the system BIOS by doing the following.

  1. Press F2 to enter system BIOS.

  1. Go to Advance Boot Options and disable Legacy Boot by clearing the option.

  1. Go to Boot Sequence and select UEFI on the Boot List Option.

  1. Go to System Configuration and then to SATA Operation and select AHCI.

  1. Go to Secure Boot and confirm it is disabled, clear the check mark.

  1. Save the changes and exit BIOS.
  2. After the server restarts, at the Dell Logo press F12 to enter the Boot Menu.
  3. Under UEFI boot, we select the USB and press enter to begin the Operating system installation.
  4. When the Windows Server files are copied and it asks for reboot, remove the USB drive and let the installation complete.
