PowerEdge: AMD platforms do not support Fault Tolerant Redundancy (FTR)

Symptoms

During boot the system reports: UEFI0060 Power required by the system exceeds the power supplied by the Power Supply Units (PSUs)

Cause

When the system is using Dual PSUs and configured to A/B Grid Redundant, the FTB Available Power reports a negative value and FTRCapable is 0. AMD platforms do not support the FTR feature so the system will not use FTR data and reports the UEFI0060 error message.
The FTR feature is only supported on the Intel platform.

Resolution

There is no defect in the product and that the steps outlined in the article are a guide for troubleshooting.

Follow the below suggestions to help resolve this issue:

  • Change to original configuration. (Removing any third party or non-dell parts)
  • Use in non-redundant mode.
  • Use a High Line 200V environment. 
  • Change to a higher watt PSU

 

Using the Enterprise Infrastructure Planning Tool (EIPT) to validate your configuration:

  • Reviewing the PSU options in the PSU Guide and workload power details in EIPT help PowerEdge users fine-tune their PSU configuration.
  • With the AMD platform, select Green - FR PSU configuration to make sure the system has enough Power Budget.

  • Gray - PSU: Capacity options cannot support the platform configuration.
  • White - FTR: PSU capacity options can support the platform configuration, but performance may be degraded after PSU redundancy loss.
  • Green - FR: Minimum PSU capacity that can support the configuration with full performance during normal and fault operating conditions. Capacities greater than this capacity are also FR.
