PowerEdge: Black Screen After Install of NVIDIA GPU Driver in RHEL with UI

Summary: This article is discussing how to fix a black screen in Red Hat Enterprise Linux UI after installing the NVIDIA GPU driver.

Symptoms

In Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, 8, and 9, after installing the NVIDIA GPU driver and rebooting, the server iDRAC console is a black screen when booting into the UI.

Cause

The NVIDIA driver causes this issue as it adds a configuration file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf that is set to use NVIDIA GPU for display output instead of the onboard VGA.

Resolution

Move "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-nvidia.conf" file to a backup folder (any other place out of this folder) to remove it from displaying and reboot the server.
