Symptoms
- ECS 3.8.x (and earlier) systems use Username and Password for configuring their ECS system with Secure Connect Gateway.
- Starting with ObjectScale 4.0, this has changed to directly use Access Key and Pin instead of Username and Password.
- On July 15, 2025, the Dell Access-Management and Identity Services (DAIS) is being retired, along with Username and Password authentication.
- After DAIS retirement, any SCG configuration requires the Access Key and Pin instead of Username and Password.
Cause
- DAIS retirement blocks the traditional Username and Password authentication for SCG configuration.
Resolution
Note:
- No action is required if SCG is already configured with Access Key and Pin.
- SCG continues to work starting July 15, 2025 with the Username and Password if it was configured earlier. However, it is recommended to reconfigure SCG with the Access Key and Pin method highlighted below in order to avoid issues if SCG disconnects and requires to be reconfigured.
Follow the steps below ECS 3.8.x or earlier when configuring or reconfiguring SCG with ECS.
- Users on ECS 3.8.x and earlier should generate an Access Key and Pin to use instead of the Username and Password values for configuring or reconfiguring SCG.
- Username → Access key
Password → PIN
Access Key and Pin Configuration Steps:
- User log in to ECS or OBS Support Portal - Support for ECS Appliance Software with Encryption | Overview | Dell US
- Click the highlighted Generated Access Key link.

- If you already have an Access Key generated, select Click Here, if not, click Next.

- Provide your VDC serial Number, and follow the workflow to create a PIN and access key.

- Log in to ECS UI and go to Settings → ESRS → goes to New ESRS Server Page.

- Provide FQDN or IP of SCG GW
- Provide PORT of SCG GW
- Provide Access Key Generated at Step 4 for the Username field
- Provide the PIN used at Step 4 for the Password field
- Click Save
Now SCG shows as connected state.
