The Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC10) is a remote server management tool that allows administrators to monitor, configure, and troubleshoot Dell servers without physical access. iDRAC10 helps improve the overall availability of Dell servers and reduces the need for physical access to the system. This Quick Start Guide offers a streamlined overview of the key steps to set up and begin using iDRAC10 efficiently.

To enable communication to and from iDRAC, configure the initial network settings on the iDRAC Settings utility based on your network infrastructure.

NOTE: By default, both IPv4 and IPv6 interfaces are enabled from the factory with DHCP enabled.
  1. Open the iDRAC System Setup page to access iDRAC settings.
  2. Press F2 during Power-On Self-Test (POST) to open the System Setup page.
  3. On the System Setup page, check if the following options are listed: System BIOS, iDRAC Settings, Device Settings.

Configure the network settings to ensure that iDRAC can communicate over the correct network interface, enabling secure and reliable remote server management.

  1. Click Network Menu under iDRAC Settings.
  2. Select Network Interface – NIC1.
  3. From the NIC Selection list, select one of the following ports based on the network requirement:
    • Dedicated —Default value. Enables the remote access device to use the dedicated network interface available on the Remote Access Controller (RAC). This interface is not shared with the host operating system and routes the management traffic to a separate physical network, enabling it to be separated from the application traffic. If NIC Selection is set to Dedicated, then Auto Dedicated NIC and Failover Network options are not supported and unavailable.
NOTE: The Dedicated option assigns iDRAC an IP address from either the same subnet or a different subnet. This setup helps manage network traffic more efficiently compared to the IP addresses assigned to the host LOM or NICs.
    • NIC.Slot.xx-x-x
    NOTE:
    • The factory configuration includes an Open Compute Project (OCP) module. The available LAN on Motherboard (LOM) and NIC selection device options are listed depending on the number of OCPs connected to the system.
    • If you have ordered a shared LOM, the NIC Selection displays the NIC Slot value. If the shared LOM is not connected to the system, the Dedicated option is selected automatically.
  4. If NIC Selection is selected as Dedicated, you can select the Link Tuning value.
  5. Validate the fields under IPv4 Settings, IPv6 Settings, and VLAN Settings. Based on the MOD you have selected during the ordering process, the fields are selected in the Factory.
  6. Click Back to exit from the Network menu.

You can change the default password of the User Name, root, to enhance security.

Each system is shipped with a unique (randomized) password string for iDRAC, which is available on the system information tag. This unique password improves the security of iDRAC and your server. The default user name is root. While ordering the system, you can choose to retain the legacy password—calvin—as the default password. If you choose to retain the legacy password, the password is not available on the system information tag.

  1. Click User Configuration under iDRAC Settings.
  2. Enter the new password in the Change Password field and confirm the password.
  3. Click Back to exit from the User Configuration menu.

Finalize the iDRAC setup using the iDRAC settings utility.

  1. Click Finish in the iDRAC Settings Utility.
  2. Restart the server after all the changes are applied.
  3. During POST, verify that the iDRAC IP addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) are displayed based on the configuration changes made during the F2 System Setup.

Log in to iDRAC after the system is powered on and the iDRAC IP address is assigned.

  1. Open a supported web browser.
  2. In the Address box, type https://[iDRAC-IP-address] and press Enter.
  3. The iDRAC login page is displayed.
  4. In the Username box, enter root, and in the Password field, enter the password for the root account (either the default factory-set password, calvin or the password set using the Configuring the root password procedure).
  5. If you have entered the factory-default passowrd (calvin), then you are prompted to change the password.
  6. Enter the new password, reenter the password to confirm, and click Confirm. The password is reset.
NOTE: For detailed information about the features and usage of iDRAC10, see the iDRAC10 User's Guide.
