Symptoms
- NetWorker Server fails to operate when installed on a domain controller.
- Service dispatcher does not start or function as expected.
- Backup operations may fail or be unable to initiate.
Cause
The NetWorker service dispatcher uses port 88, which is also reserved for Kerberos authentication — a core component of domain controller operations. This port conflict prevents the NetWorker dispatcher from functioning properly, resulting in service failures.
Resolution
Do not deploy the NetWorker Server on a domain controller.
Install the NetWorker Server on a dedicated system that is not configured as a domain controller to avoid port conflicts and ensure reliable operation.
