Dell Networking: MXG610 Management IP Address is Not Displayed in the ipaddrshow output on the CLI when VLAN is enabled on the IOM

Summary: When a VLAN is enabled on the management network of MXG610s IOMs, querying the IOM IP address using ipaddrshow results in the IP address as 0.0.0.0.

Symptoms

With VLAN management enabled on MXG610s IOMs, querying the IOM IP Address using ipaddrshow results in the address as 0.0.0.0, even though the IOM remains contactable. This also has implications if the IOM is in Access Gateway mode, and is queried using agshow like in the example below:

Agshow
10:00:50:eb:1a:61:fc:d2      24    172.28.116.213   v8.2.3      local       No      rack116-brdm6505-c2
10:00:88:94:71:60:e1:24      32    0.0.0.0          v9.1.1b     remote      No      MXG610_C2
10:00:c4:f5:7c:7f:58:8a      24    172.28.117.213   v8.2.3      remote      No      rack117-brdm6505-c2

Cause

Dell Engineering has confirmed that this is working as designed. FC-IOM VLAN support was exclusively designed for the MXG610s IOM and wanted to prevent multiple management interfaces accessing the same database.

Resolution

If the user wants to query using CLI, run the following command on the MXG610s:
admin> configshow | grep vlan

fred.vlan.dhcpv4enabled:0
fred.vlan.dhcpv6enabled:1
fred.vlan.gateway:10.155.176.1
fred.vlan.id:848
fred.vlan.ip:10.155.183.69
fred.vlan.ipv4enabled:1
Dell Engineering however recommends that all management of the MXG610s be done using the OME-M UI.

Additional Information

This also impacts creating a self-signed certificate.
