Symptoms

During the installation for the Microsoft Application Agent, the install reports the following error:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
The application event log also reports the following error:
Product: Microsoft Application Agent -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action AddinReg, location: C:\Program Files\DPSAPPS\MSAPPAGENT\bin\, command: "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\RegAsm.exe" /codebase /tlb "C:\Program Files\DPSAPPS\MSAPPAGENT\bin\DDSSMSAddin.dll"
This error does not prohibit the application agent from running properly:
  • Backups can be run from the application agent.
  • TSQ and Command-line scripts are correctly generated from the Application agent.
  • TSQ scripts that are copied from the application agent run properly from SSMS.
