PowerFlex 4.x: How to Change MVM OS Password From PFMP

NOTE: This article explains how to change the MVM's OS delladmin password to a new password, assuming PFMP already has a configured Resource Credential for the MVMs with the correct password.

Steps:

  1. Create new resource credentials with the new password from settings.
    1. Go to PFMP UI => Settings => Security => Resource Credentials.
    2. Credential Type: OS User
    3. User Name: delladmin

  1. Create a new resource Credentials. 

 

NOTE: Do not edit the old credentials having the correct password instead, create a new one with the new password, PFMP must have both the old correct password and the new password, each in a separate credential entry.

  1. Choose OS User in Credential Type, enter a new Credential Name, User Name delladmin, and new Password and click Save

You should find a new entry for the new credential assigned to Zero Resources.

  1. Assign the new Resource Credentials to the MVM Nodes.
    1. Go to Resources => Select the three PFMC 2.0 management nodes => Click Update Password

If needed, use the filter to enter a keyword that is unique for the MVM node names to easily list them.

  1. Check MVM Operating System Password and click Next

  1. From the Select drop-down menu, select the resource credential you created in step 3 and click Finish.

Alternatively, instead of Steps 1 to 3, you can create a new resource credential from the + sign

  1. Update the backup with the new password.
    1. Go to Settings => Serviceability => Backup.

Scroll down to the Management Credentials section and enter the new password for the three MVMs and click Save.

  1. Update the PFMC Resource Group (RG) with the new MVM password
    1. Go to Lifecycle => Resource Groups => Click the Hyperlink name of the RG hosting the MVMs to View Details of this RG.

Verify the RG name to ensure that it matches the correct RG hosting the MVM nodes, and then click More Actions > Update Resource Group Details.

In the MVMs Section, change the Credentials to the new one created in Step 3.

  1. After testing the new Credentials, you may delete the old one.
    1. Go to Settings => Security => Resource Credentials => Select the old MVM OS Credentials => click Remove. 

 

PFMP must be aware of the password and use it for three reasons.

  • OS updates (Done using RG for Rack/App customers)
  • Backup operation
  • PFMP upgrade
