Symptoms

Symptom 1: User NPV devices not logging in to switch, even after enabling NPIV feature and resetting connected interfaces to accept NPIV logins.

Symptom 2: User switches with NPIV enabled also have Smart Licensing enabled.

Cause

Smart Licensing.

Resolution

To address this issue, disable Smart Licensing.
  1. Use one of the following commands to disable Smart Licensing Software:
  • switch(config)# no license smart enable
  • switch(config)# no feature license smart
NPIV logins should work assuming NPIV feature is enabled. It may be necessary to reset port or end device to start new flogi sessions for NPIV devices to log in.
  1. After devices login as NPIV in the flogi table, Smart Licensing can be reenabled. Use one of the following commands to enable Smart Licensing Software:
  • switch(config)# license smart enable
  • switch(config)# feature license smart

Note: Dell Technologies does not support Smart Licensing. This feature is supported through direct contracts with Cisco.
