Symptoms

The laptop shows the following on-screen error messages:

  • 0x10E: VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL 
  • 0x13A: KERNEL_MODE_HEAP_CORRUPTION
  • 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE

Affected Platforms:

  • Alienware 16 Area-51 AA16250
  • Alienware 16 Aurora AC16250
  • Alienware 16X Aurora AC16251
  • Alienware 18 Area-51 AA18250
  • Dell 16 Premium DA16250

Cause

  • The 0x10e, 0x13A, or 0x116 on-screen errors indicate a Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) switching power management mode during a cold boot. However, the device failed to respond correctly.
  • Installing the NVIDIA version 32.0.15.9579 from a non-Dell website can result in displaying the 0x116 on-screen error.

Resolution

Note: Before starting the update, perform the following:

  • Connect the AC adapter.
