How to Connect a Dell Monitor with a USB-C Cable
Summary: Learn about how to make a good connection when using a USB-C cable with a Dell monitor.
Instructions
Some Dell monitors may be connected using a USB-C cable. Using a short cable and improper routing can strain the USB-C connector, especially during monitor adjustments. This can lead to issues like bent pins, a loose port, and even port damage. Avoid connecting cables when the cable is putting pressure on the port. The following images show examples of pressure on the ports and inadequate cable slack.
Affected Monitors:
- Dell 27 Plus 4K USB-C Monitor S2725QC
- Dell P2425E
- Dell P2425HE
- Dell Pro 34 Plus USB-C Hub Monitor P3425WE
- Dell U2424HE
- Dell U2724D
When routing cables through the wall mount or desk mount arm channel, reserve at least 40 cm (15.75 in) of cable length between the connector and the arm channel. This ensures sufficient slack for monitor adjustments, including tilt, swivel, and pivot.
If the USB-C cable is short, connect it directly to the computer without routing through the slot on the arm or monitor stand.
