"Unable to install SQL Server" Error Exit Code 2061893606 With SSD

Symptoms

Microsoft SQL Server may be unable to be installed on Windows 11 when the operating system is installed using the Microsoft inbox driver. This can happen when the BIOS SATA Operation setting is set to AHCI instead of RAID On. When SQL Server is attempted to be installed, an error message is received that says, "Unable to install SQL Server (setup.exe). Exit code (Decimal): -2061893606Error description: Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed. Check the SQL Server error log for potential causes."

In PowerShell, the physical sector size can be checked by typing Get-Disk | Select Number, FriendlyName, LogicalSectorSize, PhysicalSectorSize and then pressing Enter. This issue occurs when the value of PhysicalSectorSize is not 4096.

Cause

An issue between the Windows 11 Inbox Storage driver and the hard drives causes this error to occur.

Resolution

Note: Do not create a work order for any hardware replacement for this issue.

Long-term solution

Note: Before starting the update, perform the following:
  • Back up all personal data. For more information, refer to Back Up and Recovery.
  • Connect the AC adapter if updates are being run on a laptop.
  • SanDisk SN5000S (Dell part number 2RF37, 645DW, and 05GJH): Updating the SanDisk SN5000S Solid State Drive Firmware to version 3401.2144, A04 or later on the computer resolves the issue. To download and install the firmware, refer to How to Download and Install Dell Drivers and Firmware.
  • SanDisk SN8000S non-SED (Dell part number DVK06, H1CNH, and 50KMR): Updating the SanDisk SN8000s Solid State Drive Firmware Update to version 6301.2103, A03 or later on the computer resolves the issue. To download and install the firmware, refer to How to Download and Install Dell Drivers and Firmware.
  • SanDisk SN8000S SED (Dell part number N1KT3, 0xH6P, 4PF9M, and 4FN86): Updating the SanDisk SN8000s Solid State Drive Firmware Update to version 6311.2103, A03 or later on the computer resolves the issue. To download and install the firmware, refer to How to Download and Install Dell Drivers and Firmware.

Workaround
