You can gather logs using the OneFS web administration interface or the command-line interface.

OneFS web administration interface:

OneFS 8.1.X and later:

  1. Log in to the OneFS web administration interface
  2. Click Cluster Management > Diagnostics.
  3. Click Start Gather.

Command-Line Interface

isi diagnostics is an alternative command to isi_gather_info for use when additional options are not required to generate and send log files. isi_gather_info is not deprecated.

The following command and option generates the log file with the default options and sends it to Dell Support through Secure Remote Services. To reduce the size of the log file and improve file transfer time, follow the instructions in the Reduce Log File Size section below.

  1. Open an SSH connection on any node in the cluster and connect using the "root" account or follow Isilon: How to run isi_gather_info from a nonroot user using CLI to run the command from a nonroot user account.
  2. Run the following command: isi_gather_info --esrs

It takes several minutes to hours depending on cluster size, usage, and files collected to gather the logs. When the process finishes, logs are uploaded to the Isilon FTP site depending upon if your site has external FTP access, or Secure Remote Services connection. The completed log gather is in the Archived Info Manager section.

Reduce Log File Size.

The isi_gather_info command-line options change which files are gathered during the build. Also, diagnostic files on the cluster are cleaned up after the log file generation.

isi_gather_info options:

--no-dumps Do not get hangdumps. (These are only required for cluster hang/deadlock incidents)
--no-cores Do not get cores or minidumps. (These are only required for process failure/restart incidents)
--clean-cores Delete cores from /var/crash after successful compression of the package.
--clean-dumps Delete dumps from /var/crash after successful compression of the package.
--clean-all Delete cores and dumps from /var/crash after successful compression of the package.
--varlog_recent Gather all active logs in /var/log, but not compressed and rotated old logs (Default is for all logs).
-l Lists utilities and groups that can be included. See -i and --group.
--group <name> Add a specific group of utilities to the tarball
(See Information collected when specifying a --group option with the isi_gather_info command for additional information)
-i Includes only the listed utility. See also the -l option for a list of utilities to include.
The special value all may be used to include every known utility.
