Symptoms
During backup of a Solaris client, the following warnings are logged:
The backup completes but there may be a post script that attempts to run on the machine and fails with the same 'code 12: Not enough space' warning. The backup finishes with an error and is marked as 'Failed'.
Cause
With Solaris and Oracle, "Not enough space" means that the machine is running out of virtual memory. This may be a sign of insufficient swap space. Generally, the available swap space should be 100-200% of the physical memory, but this depends on the version of the OS.
Resolution
On the backup client, check the swap size and how much physical memory is installed. During the backup, the system resource requirements usually increase to levels not normally seen in other production scenarios. To resolve the issue, have the administrator of the client machine add the recommended amount of swap space to the machine.
