How to Configure Connection Profile in Dell EMC OpenManage Integration for VMware vCenter
Host Credential Profile Basics:
-
Known as Connection Profiles in 4.X
-
A Credential Profile is the process of Discovering Devices
-
Two types of Credential Profiles: Hosts and Chassis
-
Can only add hosts and chassis that are known to vCenter
Host Credential Profile:
Host Credential profile Basics
-
Designed to Add ESXi hosts that are known to Registered vCenter instances
-
OMIVV requires iDRAC only, but Host credentials are encouraged for advanced functionality
-
Requires WBEM Enablement (the OMIVV wizard tries to enable it, but can also be enabled manually)
Create a Host Credential Profile.
-
Part of the Initial Configuration Wizard
-
Can add new profiles by selecting Compliance and Deployment > Host Credential Profile > Create New Profile
-
Add a specific vCenter server or select All vCenter servers from the drop-down
-
Under Name and Credentials, you Name the Profile, and Add ESXi host and iDRAC credentials
-
Under Associated Hosts, add the Hosts you want to be assigned to this Credential Profile
-
A test can be ran to verify the credentials are good
-
Select Finish
Chassis Credential Profile:
Chassis Credential profile Basics
-
Designed to Modular Chassis assets into OMIVV
-
Only needs the Chassis Credentials
Create a Chassis Credential profile.
-
Can add new profiles by selecting Compliance and Deployment > Chassis Credential Profile > Create New Profile
-
Name the Credential Profile and add the Chassis credentials
-
Add the Chassis that matches the credentials you entered
-
It runs a Test to verify Credentials
-
Select Finish
Troubleshooting Credential Profiles:
-
The symptom will almost always be that the Test fails against the iDRAC or the Host
-
If it fails against all devices, it is likely a network or credential issue
-
If it fails against on a few or one, troubleshoot the individual devices
IDRAC Credential Test Fails
-
Are all systems affected or some?
-
Verify that the same credential can connect to the DRAC web UI
-
Attempt a manual WS-MAN Command from the same network as OMIVV
Example command for Windows:
winrm e cimv2/root/dcim/DCIM_SystemView -u:root -p:password-r:https://idracip_or_dnsname/wsman -auth:basic -encoding:utf-8 -SkipCACheck –SkipCNCheck
-
Attempt the same WS-MAN command in the same network as Target Device if they differ
-
Also uses Dell Troubleshooting Tool
-
If it seems like an iDRAC issue, attempt a
racadm racresetthen a flea drain
ESXi Credential Test Fails
-
Are all systems affected or some?
-
Verify that same credential can log in to ESXi Host UI
-
Attempt a manual WS-MAN Command from the same network as OMIVV
Example command for Windows:
winrm e cimv2/CIM_IPProtocolEndpoint -u:root -r:https://esxi_ip_or_dnsname:443/wsman -SkipCNCheck -SkipCACheck -auth:basic -encoding:utf-8 –SkipRevocationCheck
-
Attempt the same WS-MAN command in the same network as Target Device if they differ
-
Also uses Dell Troubleshooting Tool
-
If it seems like a Host issue, ensure that WBEM is enabled and check the logs for reason for failure
Chassis Credential Test Fails
-
Are all affected or some?
-
Verify that the same credential can connect to Web UI
-
Attempt a manual WS-MAN Command from the same network as OMIVV
Example command for Windows:
winrm e cimv2/root/dcim/DCIM_modularchassisView -u:root -p:password -r:https://chassis_ip_or_dnsname/wsman -auth:basic -encoding:utf-8 -SkipCACheck -SkipCNCheck
-
Attempt the same WS-MAN command in the same network as Target Device if they differ
-
Also uses Dell Troubleshooting Tool
-
If it seems like a Chassis issue, do a
racadm racresetor a CMC Failover and test again
