Sintomi

Error reported when trying to change the retention lock from "none" to "Governance  for existing device

Encountered error updating Device 1 out of 1: Unable to get Mtree information for DD host ,DD_NAME, user <sysadmin>, port <3009>, Mtree </data/col1/>. The following error occurred: **** There are no Mtrees configured that match the pattern /data/col1/.

Attempt to create new Data Domain device using  “device access information: "<DDR_hostname>:/< StorageUnitName> ", fails with error:

Create failed: Invalid value for attribute 'device access information': Data Domain device path('<SU>') only contains Storage Unit Name. It should be of the format <StorageUnitName>/<DeviceName>

While the old devices (created with older versions of NW) are still functional (backup/clone/restore), modifications and attempt to recreate the same device (after being deleted) may fail with above or similar error.

Causa

New feature has been introduced in NetWorker code to enforce use of Device Access Information format <DDName>:/< StorageUnitName >
Reason for this change is DD limitation of the number of MTrees (Storage Units)  per Data Domain Appliance.
Number of NetWorker Data Domain devices is limited to 512 per Storage Unit, hence increasing number of devices to be created per Data Domain Appliance.

Risoluzione

1. Engage Data Domain Support to fastcopy content of exiting device directory :/< StorageUnitName > to a new directory : / /.

2. Using NMC GUI New Device Wizard, or using nsradmin from CLI, create New Data Domain device with attribute “Device Access Information” using : / / from Step #1. . NOTE: Make sure NOT to LABEL new device.
