Sintomi

Failure to Unmount NFS Datastore from vSphere. From the datastores, there are VMs showing connected to the datastore although it is not used by any of them.

Causa

Although the NFS datastore is not used on any of the ESXi hosts or the VMs, the VMs might have the datastore attached but not connected.
VM datastore not connected

Risoluzione

To resolve this issue, unmount the datastore ISO file from all VMs associated with it.

CAUTION: Ensure all VMs and their Hard disks (vmdk files) are detached from the NFS datastore to avoid potential DU as the VM could become inaccessible.

See the below screenshot showing the hard disk is attached to the vSAN datastore.

To list mounted NFS datastores use command:

esxcli storage nfs list

The NFS datastore iso file has to be removed from the VMs.

  1. Right click on each VM and select Edit Settings.
  2. Change "Datastore ISO File" to "Client Device" and save changes.
  3. Repeat this on all VMs that appear under the NFS datastore.
  4. Unmount the datastore from vSphere again if needed and it should work.

select Client Device

Informazioni aggiuntive

In order to list mounted NFS datastores, use command:

esxcli storage nfs list

In order to delete a datastore, use command:

esxcli storage nfs remove -v NFS_Datastore_Name
