Instructions

Over time, as data is written through the CloudBoost Appliance, the metadata database will grow in size.
In conditions where the metadata disk was not sized appropriately or the utilization is not monitored, the metadata disk will eventually reach a critical point of usage.
Use the appropriate steps below to expand the metadata disk on the CloudBoost Virtual Appliance.

CloudBoost OVA deployed in VMware

  1. Log in to the vSphere client
  2. Browse to the virtual machine in the vSphere client.
  3. Right-click the appliance and select Edit Settings.
  4. On hard disk 2, expand to the wanted size.
  5. Save the changes, and wait for vSphere to make the change.
  6. Reboot the CB appliance and the new disk capacity should be ingested into the /lvm partition automatically.

CloudBoost AMI deployed in AWS EC2

  1. Open the Amazon EC2 console.
  2. Power off the CloudBoost AMI Instance.
  3. Choose Volumes, select the volume to modify, and then choose ActionsModify Volume.
  4. The Modify Volume window displays the volume ID and the volume's current configuration.
  5. To modify the size, enter an allowed integer value for Size.
  6. After you have finished changing the volume settings, click Modify. When prompted for confirmation, choose Yes.
  7. Power on the AMI Instance and the new disk space should be ingested into the /lvm partition automatically.

CloudBoost VHD deployed in Azure

  1. Log in to the Azure Portal.
  2. Select Virtual Machines on the left-hand panel.
  3. Power off the VM.
  4. Select Disks from the navigation panel.
  5. Identify the disk to expand and click the disk name. It should be under Data Disks.
  6. Modify the Size value and click Save. (Azure allows disk sizes up to 2 TB)
  7. Power on the VM and the new disk space should be ingested into the /lvm partition automatically.

Note:
  • When expanding Metadata disk, you want to multiply the expected disk size increase by 2 because 50% of disk capacity is reserved for recovery plus ~3% is reserved for overhead. Example: If your goal is to increase Metadata disk capacity by 10 GB, increase the Metadata disk by 20 GB (10 GB x 2 = 20 GB).
  • You cannot nor should not down-size disks after they have been increased.

Additional Information

CloudBoost disk expansion is only supported on the metadata disk. If the operating system disk is found to be having storage consumption issues, Raise a Service Request with CloudBoost Support for further assistance.
