Data Domain: Alert - IO module has failed | EVT-ENVIRONMENT-00029

Summary: When an I/O Module (aka SLIC or PCI card) fails or is removed from a Data Domain (DD), the system generates the Error: EVT-ENVIRONMENT-00029: Event Message: I/O module has failed.

Acest articol se aplică pentru Acest articol nu se aplică pentru Acest articol nu este legat de un produs specific. Acest articol nu acoperă toate versiunile de produs existente.

Symptoms

The failure or removal of an I/O card (e.g SAS, NIC, NVRAM, FC) results in loss of communication to the affected card.
Hot-Swap of PCIe devices is NOT supported.

Note: Hot-swap triggers an unexpected reboot of the system.

Alert Example:

Alert Id: 147
Event Id: EVT-ENVIRONMENT-00029
Event Message: I/O module has failed
Object: Enclosure=1:Slot=7
Additional Information: Cause=A hardware fault occurred

This KB applies to PCIe devices; the same alert can also be generated against a Trusted Platform Module (TPM)

Cause

The failure or removal of a system module (I/O card)

Resolution

Check and confirm the status of the affected card:

  • DDCLI (SSH) # system show hardware
    • A failed or removed card slot reported as '(empty)'
    • Example:
      sysadmin@DD# sys show hardware

      • This example show slot 7 as (empty) as the card in that slot had failed.
    • This output can be compared to Auto-Support to determine the missing card if all slots are not populated.

If the card was removed accidentally:

  • Power off the DD unit, DDCLI (SSH):
    • # system poweroff
  • Reinstall the card as needed
  • Power the system back on.

If the card is suspected to be faulty or failed, contact your Support Provider to investigate and arrange a repair or replacement.
