Change the Root Account Password for Linux®.

 

NOTE: 
Nothing will be displayed when you type the password. If the password is invalid, a warning message with an explanation will be displayed. The root account, however, does not have to comply with password requirements.
 
  1. Log in using the root account password.
  2. From the command line, type passwd and then press the <Enter> key.
  3. At the New password: prompt, type the new password and then press the <Enter> key.
  4. At the Retype new password: prompt, retype the password and then press the <Enter> key.
    The password change is complete when the passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully message appears
 

Change a User Account Password Using the Root Account in Linux®.

 

  1. Log in using the root account password.
  2. From the command line, type passwd <User_Name>, where <User_Name> is the name of the user account, and then press the <Enter> key.
  3. At the New password: prompt, type the new password and then press the <Enter> key.
