Expansion card installation guidelines

Your system supports Generation 3 cards. The following table lists the supported expansion cards:

Table 1. PCI Express Generation 3 expansion cards supportedThe PCIe slot 1 is mapped to processor. This slot supports full height, half length x4 expansion cards. This is an x8 slot. The PCIe slot 2 is mapped to processor. This slot supports full height, half length x8 expansion cards. This is an x16 slot. The PCIe slot 3 is mapped to Platform Controller Hub. This slot supports full height, half length x1 expansion cards. This is an x1 slot. The PCIe slot 4 is mapped to Platform Controller Hub. This slot supports full height, half length x4 expansion cards. This is an x8 slot.

NOTE: All slots support Generation 3 PCIe expansion cards.
NOTE: The expansion cards are not hot swappable.

The following table provides a guide for installing expansion cards to ensure proper cooling and mechanical fit. Install the expansion card by following the card priority and slot priority order as shown in the table.

Table 2. Expansion card installation order1. Card priority 1 is assigned to PowerEdge RAID Controller (PERC) H730 (full height). The slot priority for PERC H730 is 2, 1 and 4, and a maximum of 1 card is allowed. Card priority 1 is assigned to PERC H330 (full height). The slot priority for PERC H330 is 2, 1, and 4, and a maximum of 1 card is allowed. Card priority 1 is assigned to PERC H830 (full height). The slot priority for PERC H830 is 2, 1, and 4, and a maximum of 2 cards are allowed. 2. Card priority 2 is assigned to 10 G NICs Dual Port (Intel) (full height). The slot priority for 10 G NICs Dual Port (Intel) is 2, 1 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. Card priority 2 is assigned to 10 G NICs Dual Port (Broadcom) (full height). The slot priority for 10 G NICs Dual Port (Broadcom) is 2, 1 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. 3. Card priority 3 is assigned to Fibre Channel 8 Gb Host Bus Adapter (HBA) (Qlogic) (full height). The slot priority for Fibre Channel 8 Gb HBA (Qlogic) is 2, 1 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. Card priority 3 is assigned to Fibre Channel 8 Gb HBA (Emulex) (full height). The slot priority for Fibre Channel 8 Gb HBA (Emulex) is 2, 1 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. Card priority 3 is assigned to Fibre Channel 8 Gb (HBA) (Blackhawk-2) (full height). The slot priority for Fibre Channel 8 Gb HBA (Blackhawk-2) is 2, 1 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. Card priority 2 is assigned to Fibre Channel 8 Gb HBA (Wildfire-2) (full height). The slot priority for Fibre Channel 8 Gb HBA (Wildfire-2) is 2, 1 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. 4. Card priority 4 is assigned to 1 Gb NICs Quad Port (Intel) (full height). The slot priority for 1 Gb NICs Quad Port (Intel) is 1, 2 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. Card priority 4 is assigned to 1 Gb NICs Quad Port (Broadcom) (full height). The slot priority for 1 Gb NICs Quad Port (Broadcom) is 1, 2 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. Card priority 4 is assigned to 1 Gb NICs Dual Port (Intel) (full height). The slot priority for 1 Gb NICs Dual Port (Intel) is 1, 2 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. Card priority 4 is assigned to 1 Gb NICs Dual Port (Broadcom) (full height). The slot priority for 1 Gb NICs Dual Port (Intel) is 3, 1, 4 and 2, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed. 5. Card priority 5 is assigned to 12 Gb SAS HBA (full height). The slot priority for 12 Gb SAS HBA is 2, 1 and 4, and a maximum of 3 cards are allowed.
