Dell PowerFlex 4.5.x and PowerFlex Manager 4.8.x Software Install and Upgrade Guide

Introduction

The Dell PowerFlex 4.5.x and PowerFlex Manager 4.8.x Software Install and Upgrade Guide describes how to deploy a new instance of PowerFlex 4.8.x and provides instructions to upgrade existing 3.6.x or 4.5.x PowerFlex deployments to PowerFlex 4.8.x.

Use this guide only for PowerFlex software installations and upgrades. PowerFlex rack and PowerFlex appliance customers should not use this document for installations or upgrades. The target audience for this document includes Dell Technologies customers and services.

PowerFlex Manager 4.8.x includes the catalog core package 4.5.5 and above.

To deploy PowerFlex Manager 4.8.x for the first time, go to the Install section for detailed instructions on the following topics:

  • Selecting deployment type
  • Configuring PowerFlex Manager
  • Deploying additional storage nodes

To upgrade an existing PowerFlex 4.5.x (core) and PowerFlex 4.6.x (management) system, go to the Upgrading from PowerFlex 4.5.x (core) and PowerFlex 4.6.x1 (management) to PowerFlex 4.5.x (core) and 4.8.x (management) section for detailed instructions on the following topics:

  • Upgrading PowerFlex Manager to 4.8

To upgrade an existing PowerFlex 3.6.x system, go to the Upgrading from PowerFlex 3.6.x (core and management) to PowerFlex 4.5.x (core) and 4.8.x (management) section for detailed instructions on the following topics:

  • Importing existing PowerFlex 3.6.x system

CAUTION:PowerFlex file and file services are supported only for PowerFlex systems with PowerFlex Manager 4.6.x and earlier. If using PowerFlex file services, you must remove any file services configuration before upgrading to PowerFlex Manager 4.8.x and PowerFlex 4.5.5.
