LBA48 support on GX270
Hi,
This is probably a very stupid question, but i'm pretty hopeless when it comes to BIOSes and such.
I have an OptiPlex GX270, with BIOS revision A01. Does this support LBA48 on the PATA ports? If not, is there a more recent BIOS revision (the latest i can find is A06) that would add support?
I've looked through the release notes for the BIOS revisions, and can't find any mention of LBA48, but i don't know if that's because it was there in the initial release and so wasn't touched in the revisions!
Thanks,
tom

The 270 supports the IAA so if you still have your win98SE reinstall cd or its still running win98 OR you have a WIN98 startup disk AND you have a drive larger than 127 gigs you can TEST the bios with a DOS program from INTEL.

Also, according to this (a copy of Dell's spec sheet for the GX270):

The chipset in a GX270 is an Intel 865G, and according to this:

That's not supported by the IAA. Is that not the case?

A06 seems to be the latest bios but I dont recommend updating bios. Its the if its not broke dont fix it policy.

DOH!! I dont have any so I had not realized this point.
I guess I am mistaken about the IAA support for the 270. However they added 48 BIT lba support for the GX110 a zillion years ago so it would stand to reason that the GX260/270 etc support not only 48 bit LBA but also USB booting and USB 2.0
