Here's what's happening underneath what you can't see until you take it apart. The holes on the back cover that the hinge screws into are busting completely off the back cover, the newer back cover has more screw holes. So your going to want the new back cover and the screws for it as well. As for the hinge in my opinion it's optional they where the exact same when I ordered the hinge so if you want you can use the stock hinge and loosen the  nut on it a little so it's easier to swing back and forth. I hope this clears things up for you.

We have a Dell G3 15 3590. This laptop never moves off the desk. The left hinge is pulling apart and when it does it pulls the bezel away from the screen. It is still under warranty, but Dell just told me our basic warranty doesn't cover 'cosmetic' type damage. Cosmetic? This isn't cosmetic since the hinge is not functioning and pulling the case apart. I've seen over 40 other people in another thread, that I can't reply on for some reason, with the exact same hinge issue. We are basically leaving the screen open to prevent further damage, but having to resort to this is not right. This looks to be a defect in this series of laptop that Dell should cover.

We actually have two of these laptops. The other one has not had this issue as of this moment

Add me to the list.  Computer 7 months old and barely used before COVID.  No travel with it at all.  I'm an engineer and extremely gentle with it.  Supposed to get a call back in the morning - will not be happy if they hassle me about warranty.  I can't afford to send this in due to working from home.  Hopefully they don't hassle me much about getting it fixed.  This is the first new laptop I've bought in a decade.  Won't be buying Dell again if they don't fix it right and free.  And I'll make sure all of engineering gaming friends at work know about it too.

This G3 is the worst laptop that I've ever had. Barely 4 months old and the hinges have started falling apart. I loved Dell but this is it for me, **bleep** product! Too many people are having this problem for it to be a coincidence. Definitely a design flaw. Dell needs to do better!

I have the same problem. It cracked open completely for no sensible reason (bad design?), and I have had difficulty getting Dell to acknowledge responsibility. It's now in a sad state indeed, and it seriously impairs my ability to get any work done on this machine.

This just started happening to my G3 15 tonight! Had zero issues with the hinge and screen up until tonight. Have no idea what caused this to happen. My laptop is just over a year old and unfortunately, the warranty was over last month. This is pissing me off.

Too many with this same problem as not to be a design flaw. We’re still trying to get ours repaired by Dell but they’re fighting saying it’s an accidental damage and not covered. My 3590 is only 8 months old... looks like I’ll have to report this to the Better Business Bureau!!!

I have purchased DELL G3 I5 3590 Laptop on 7-May-20 for 74500/- . within 10days it is started giving problem, hanging frequently. Have contacted Technical support desk and even after several days of trouble shooting they identify issue is with RAM. They have informed it is communicated to service engg to attend at site, but non committal on resolution time . Have contacted Service Escalation team, they also could not understand and support on time. Never expected such a worst support from DELL. Approached GBS System, KK Nagar where i have purchased the systems, they are reluctant and asked me to contact GBS,Vellacherry ( DELL Warranty Support ). Laptop was handed over to them for servicing and they confirmed Motherboard gone faulty and replaced it. This clearly shows DELL Technical support team and Service Escalation team team do not have knowledge in troubleshooting. It is surprising howcome a product can fail within 10days
Now within 3months hinges problem cropped, have again approached GBS, KKNagar why such repeat issues
They are unwilling to listen. Even i spoke to Owner of GBS, but didn't yield any positive result. Again handed over
my Laptop to GBS Systems, Vellacherry. It is still with them, awaiting for the spares
Approached Service Escalation of DELL again. As usual team is very lethargic , no customer centric. They are explaining their process only.
Have been searching for email ids of some responsible person ,but could not . Service Escalation team is also unwilling to share next level of Escalation

t is very frustrating to have a defective product after spending huge amount 74500/-
The intention of purchase is to utilize during lockdown, but the purpose is completely lost.
Going thro lot of mental agony and sleepless night. Felt being cheated by DELL and GBS Systems,Chennai

I have been requesting Tech Support and Escalation team to arrange for Replacement or Refund

I wish DELL to arrange refund,so that i can purchase any other Laptop with different retailer

My G3 15 has the same problem.  We sent it in in under warranty in February with the broken hinge.  We were told it is not covered and PAID $200 then WAITED 7 WEEKS!  After a few months of gentle care, the hinge broke again.  We've shipped it in as a warranty claim and are told the parts are OUT OF STOCK AGAIN!!

The hinge is badly designed, a big torque load on two tiny screws.  No wonder the repair components are all gone!  Can they correct the design flaw when they repair it, or will it break again in 4 more months?
