Windows 10 Home Single Language, English

Hi there,

In my laptop purchase it had Windows 10 Home installed but the key wasn't shared.

Questions:

1. If OS corrupts at any point, what should I do?

2. If I upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and then if I revert back to Windows 10 Home, do I need to ask tech support for key?

3. Did Dell installed Windows 10 Home OEM? If yes, If I format the laptop what should I do?

If the system shipped from Dell with Windows 10, the license key is embedded into the system board.  Once activated, that license belongs to the system in perpetuity.

If your reseller or you provide a different version of Windows, you (or your system provider) will have that license key.

If you want to check what was shipped, go to the Dell support site in the country of original shipment and look up the details using the system service tag.

Hi santoshmadigela,

In case of OS corruption, where you need to reinstall the OS, use the Dell OS recovery tool or Support Assist OS Recovery. Here is the article that will help.

As suggested by ejn63 here, in case you upgrade, the license key will be provided by the seller which you need to use whenever you clean install the OS again.

Please direct message us if you need any further details.

The licence key is embedded in the UEFI Firmware called Secure Boot. If you wipe your HDD or SDD clean and reinstall Windows 10, it will automatically pick up the key.

For example... When I got my new laptop. I wiped it clean, reinstalled Windows 10, and by the time I got to the start screen, it's automatically activated.

You can download Windows 10 ISO and it's tool to copy it to USB here.

Or you can download Dell's version of the tool here

Thanks all, I am getting to understand slowly.

Now I understood that the Windows 10 Home Key (let's assume A is the key) in embedded on the system board.

Let's say - I bought Windows 10 Pro OEM from Amazon (let's assume B as the key) and installed it.

Later, for some reasons I want to move back to Windows 10 Home. For this move I need to have key A right? For this, do I need to contact dell or it is already on the system board?
