It is an i7, yes.  Since that's the fastest one Dell shipped, it's the fastest one that's guaranteed to work.

If you choose to try a faster CPU, remember:

You can use ONLY second generation Core i CPUs - third (and the soon to be out fourth) generation CPUs will not work.

Don't install a CPU with a greater TPD rating (45W)

Also be sure you realize that the CPU is only part of the performance equation - for overall work, if you still have a conventional hard drive, the $200 is better spent on a solid state drive.  And if it's the video performance that's lagging, that cannot be upgraded.

Thats better, you initially said 2360qm but it's  actually the 2630qm. I already installed 8g of ram, and it still seems to be slower then it should, just surfing the net. I don't do gaming. Solid state HD for $200 not a big enough HD. Solid state HD's are very expensive. Video is OK. Boot time lag's. I have a desktop emachine with 4g ram win7, amd 64x2 6000+, very cheap machine, and it's much faster then the Vostro, and I don't know why. The Vostro is much newer and should be much faster.

CPU world does not list that cpu. Is it an i5 or i7? I'm not to concerned about what Dell had installed in this computer, but what can be the fastest i7 cpu that you can install in this laptop.

Desktop systems are always faster - the CPUs run faster, the bus speeds are higher and the hard drives run faster.

I had i3 2310M (vostro 3750 without dedicated gpu) and upgraded successfully to i7 2670QM.

I am using Windows 10 and tried also on Ubuntu 17.04.
