Hi adukale,

Microsoft has started to list its Windows Phone Tango upgrade as part of the company's history page for its mobile operating system updates. Build 8773.98, which are currently shipping.

The small update will bump the build number up to 7.10.8773.98 and will update the messaging app, allowing users to attach multiple files to a single message. Tango will also allow users to import contacts from the SIM card and include adding MMS improvements and a new GPS location icon and Other improvements.

The software giant does not indicate when the update will be available to existing devices, but Microsoft previously promised it would "start the process of working with mobile operators to bring an update to current customers" after its range of Windows Phone Tango phones launched.

Please get back to us on further information or assistance.

Hi adukale,

As said earlier in the above post the software giant does not indicate when the update will be available to existing devices, but Microsoft previously promised it would "start the process of working with mobile operators to bring an update to current customers" after its range of Windows Phone Tango phones launched.

Would request you to wait till the update is launched by Microsoft to the entire phone.

Please do get back to us on further assistance or information.

Hi

Is there a possibility of DVP getting WP 7.8 Update. Since the RTM has been released by Microsoft Already to OEMs

Hi Vivek Misra,

There was always an air of uncertainty that existing Windows Phones [DVP] would be eligible for update. Still we had hoped that these phones would be updateable but with limitations by Microsoft shortly.

Some may see Windows Phone 7.8 by giving Windows Phone 7 the appearance of running the Windows Phone 8.

Please get back to us on further assistance or information.

Also should note.. MS has said ALL legacy WP7 phones should get the update, and the rumor mill has it that the update will possibly circumvent the carriers, so there is a chance the DVP will get an upgrade through MS, and Dell support won't know anything until after it happens. Which if memory serves was the case with the Tango update.

Dell have stopped making mobile devices for now, yes. BUT they stated that they will continue to support the VP. As far as 7.8 is concerned that is anyones guess. Plus its not up to Dell.

Little known fact: The DVP was NOT engineered by Dell, they contracted Qisda Corporation(a subsidary of BenQ) to produce the firmware. This is highly apparent in all the issues that were caused on launch with wifi bugs and also as to why the compass never worked after Tango. This is also glaringly obvious in the EM app as the English is badly written and there are some chinese characters in it too.

Seems to be some Confusion on 8 vs 7.8 vs tango..

Sad since your the Dell rep..

But here it goes..

NO the DVP and all PREVIOUS (Up to Nokia 900) will NOT Get WindowsPhone8

Supposedly all Pre-Apollo phones will get the 7.8 refresh according to Windows. This refresh will make our phones look like WindowsPhone8 phones, with the new screen.

DVP currently has Tango available.

As for 7.8 that's the question.. Windows has said yes.. but Devs at XDA have been having fits with the DVP as its locked and rooted a different way than the HTC/Samsung/Nokia WP7 phones. Also unlike those companies Dell left the phone market, so as we can tell support is weak for the DVP here.

So... that said.. the guys at XDA are working on a custom  ROM for the phone.. basically hacking the Nokia 7.8 code with the DVP 7.5 Tango code. So IF MS and Dell dont upgrade us like the other phones, there will be a way to get to 7.8 through unofficial channels, just not when everyone else upgrades.

All Legacy Windows 7 and 7.5 Phones will not be getting any Update for Windows 8, All will be getting WIndows Phone 7.8 Only, However since Dell is out of Production, there is doubt if Dell will get the update pushed.
