DVI is better than VGA for TFTs because they are digital and VGA is analog. A TFT displayes its picture digitally, pixel per pixel. Via DVI the panel gets data for each pixel, so the picture generated in the graphics card will match exact with the pixels on the panel itself.
Not so with VGA. First, the picture is generated digitally in the graphics card. Then it's converted to analog. In the TFT they will be converted again to digital (=> senseless twice conversion => quality loss), using the phase and the clock, and it'll be calculated which pixel should display what color. As the phase and clock can't be adjusted so precisely that a pixel of a picture generated by the graphics card will be displayed by the appropriate pixel on the panel. Means that the picture will be interpolated a little bit, which again means quality loss.
The electron cannons of the CRT need analog signals, that's why VGA is the best for CRTs and DVI would make no sense here.
For TFTs, DVI is the best.

I hope yall have pre-ordered your YF-19, looking forward to getting this more than a DELL tft LOL :P

This sounds to me a bit like a 'setup' I am sure that you both would have known these answers before you posted:) I have read many of your posts before & I am sure that you are too informed about monitors at least.
yeh thanks, alot of my posts are as u say setups lol, your first to see it maybe :P
But it cant hurt to go over it all once again and keep it fresh in ya memory, as the biggest problem i have found with posting on forums is people have severe selective attension.
My 1st computer was a VIC 20 (when 1st out) hahahaha been into it ever since :P
Edit: just to add, i can not at all be happy using VGA on a $1200-$1500AUD display thats designed to use DVI to acheive max quality. since the dvi is borky on 07wfp dells, i find it NOT GOOD ENUF. The Q/C is not good enuf, the inputs are not good enuf, yet people say coz its cheaper than other 24" tft's, oh you know im happy, i only play lame games and i have thick glasses cant see any banding. Good for them but for us hardcore PC users looking to buy a True SUPER HIGH END display as claimed by DELL, it just dont seem worth the money to me. Only reason id still buy from DELL is because its advanced exchange. This luck of the draw scenario is also not good enuf.

Are you an old boy too (can't say what I was going to;))?
I started with a sega, commodore 64, osbourne, nec apc3 etc. & was auditing output for the air force RAAF computers.
I just sent all the facts a pm about that idiot you mentioned the other day posting about 'my 2407 does not band - you all must be thick'. In fact just below this thread he has 3 odd going the same. Hasn't this forum got rules about this multi threading spam being not on? He acts just like a troller. Should really be warned &/or banned imo.
Since we all love banding so much, I thought you would be happy to know that banding is still present on VGA, it is greatly reduced, but it is still there. It is particularly visible when a gradient is animated.
I have created an example here: http://11011.net/files/gradient.xaml
You will need Windows Vista or the .NET Framework 3.0 to view it. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C6636E90-26E6-44E0-8780-5D3CCD3D94ED&displaylang=en
Age is just a number to me, i still fell like a 18yo. Yes its hard to control myself with my grammar also, ive really had to tone it down coz ive had 4 warnings from DELL now :P
Did I ever get into hexidecimal to change the code of floppys ?, No, ive not heard of that b4, sounds quite CORE, what does it acheive ? :( only thing i like to do to floppy drives these days is hit them with my hammer, best way to fix anything you know :D
hey doug, i had banding in vga on mine also, almost as bad as dvi, but noone would believe me here, thanks for your comment and picture, i wish i had taken more pictures of the DELL's i had here as so i can go, wham bam thankyou mam and take that picture as proof.
However it seems some people are happy to run VGA, tweak the phase and clock as best they can and have little if at all no banding, but with an allround quality loss. (even tho this loss of quality maybe hard to detect for alot of people)
All the Facts, the ledgend who started this thread has been playing around with VGA, out of interest and also ridding banding from his sight till he can exchange his A02's for A03'2 (from what i can tell from his posts anyways, hope im right:P).
I doubt he would be happy with using VGA as a permenent solution.....
But doug, seeing banding makes me far from happy lol, but you have backed up what i have said b4 from your post here, so for that im happy :D
Windows Vista !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better get downloading... hehehe not tried it yet, a m8 has and says i should wait a bit longer, but curiosity killed the cat, lucky cats have nine lives.
Hey Kev, you been to these forums b4 ?
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=586840 i cant get no satisfaction there :P I decided to leave the little boys play with their rinky dink little 2407 toys there, and I will proceed to fight the battle on the FRONT LINES here, knowing all too well that tomorrow DELL's MIB's could knock on my door, hypnotise me and tell me that i was abducted by aliens. Forums such as whirlpool will not provoke DELL into any sort of action, kind of a waste of time posting there.

KevinR100 , this thread is obviously meant to be informational. The more readers know about the technology, the less apprehensive they become and more comfortable with their purchasing decisions.
Historical is also a good way to go.
ArchAnge1, MIB :) I heard version A-007, The James Bond Special Edition, will have Global Positioning Chips in them:) I’ll be purchasing a scrambler tomorrow:)
Oh, before I forget, my quote, “VGA is as good as it can be” in regards to noise and banding, which is 98% better than DVI in the A02’s. Still a splash of banding here and there, but nothing like with DVI. Gray skies actually look very good no bands or steps. It’s the low-res content that can be a problem. I’ll bet a lot of people are confusing stepping in color transitions and gradients with banding. Meaning customers think banding is normal for an LCD and accept it as that’s as good as it gets for current technology. The component in from a stand-alone DVD player and PC DVD drive look really good, better than a 27” Trinitron model that is interlaced and has a line doubler.
I thought you said you ordered a 2407?
Anyway,
Three (3) - new 2407 - A03's on the way.:)
Customer service was excellent. The person I spoke to addressed my concerns politely and professionally. She was very conscientious and detail orientated. The seamless transaction was followed up with email confirmations. I am very impressed, so far.:)
I’ll let you all know what happens throughout the remainder of the process and my test results of each new panel.

Contrast adjust the brightness difference between light and dark tones.
Brightness determines the low light output level (black level) of the screen.
Using low level of contrast prevents eye fatigue.
First adjust brightness then contrast to a comfortable level.
